Hey, Mike! This question is from SAT October 2015 Test; section 9-Math; Question #12. A shoe manufacture increases the length of a shoe 1/6 inch in order to increase the shoe size by one half size. If a size 6-shoe is 9 1/2 inches in length, what is the length of a size 8 1/2 shoe?
A) 9 2/3 in B) 9 3/4 in C) 9 11/12 D) 10 1/6 E) 10 1/3

Thank you.

A size 8.5 is 2.5 sizes bigger than a size 6.

2.5 sizes is 5 half sizes. So the shoe length increases by 5/6 of an inch.

9 1/2 + 5/6
= 10 2/6
= 10 1/3
