On page148, what does it mean when question 3 states,”[i]f r(x) is divisible by x?” Is this mentioned else where in the book?

That just means that all the terms in r(x) have an x in them. For example, if r(x)=3x^3+x^2+5x, then r(x) is divisible by x.

On the other hand, if r(x)=4x^2-9, then r(x) is not divisible by x because of the 9 term.
