In the xy-plane, line k passes through the points (-4,0) and (0,-7). Line j is parallel to line k and passes through the point (8,14). What is the value of the x-intercept of line j ?

Algebraically: We know slope from the (0,-7) (-4,0) of
first line (y2-y1)/( x2-x1)
= (0–7)/(-4-0)=-7/4
y = mx+b slope formula, where m is slope and b is the y intercept
so 14=-7/4( 8) +b plug in given points of second line parallel so same slope
14= -14 +b (7X8)/4( 56/4 ) or ( 2X7)= 14
28 =b
0= -7/4x +28
0= -1/4x +4 reduce the 7 and 28 to 1 and 4
-4=- 1/4x
-16= -x
x =16
when y is 0,x is 16 or the x intercept and answer
