If x/y=2 and z/x=4, what is the value of x+y+z/x?

A 4 1/2
B 5
C 5 1/2
D 6
E 7

Again, please use parentheses! Don’t make me guess what your fractions are doing.

\dfrac{x+y+z}{x}=\dfrac{x}{x} + \dfrac{y}{x} + \dfrac{z}{x}

The first term is obviously 1. The second term is the inverse of one of the given fractions. If \dfrac{x}{y}=2, then \dfrac{y}{x}=\dfrac{1}{2}. The third term, you’re told, is 4.

1 + 1/2 + 4 = 5.5
